WIND ENGINEER (WESTERN)

The position will be based at the EFL’s Sigatoka Depot, will report to the Unit Leader Renewable Generation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Safety Procedures and Practices, as defined with reference to OHS acts, are maintained at work place and also implement the Safety, Health and Environment Policy of EFL;
  • Lead and Control a Team assigned with daily works plan for operation, repair and maintenance of EFL Wind farm(s) and surrounds;
  • Accountable for the Operations and Maintenance expenditure for the wind farm(s) within approved budgetary limits including the management of overtime, hiring of additional labour, etc;
  • Ensure prudent inventory management and control of adequate wind turbine generator spare parts for the efficient daily operation and maintenance of the wind farm. Forecast material usage and ensure timely availability of parts for maintenance;
  • Accountable for the administration of the Team’s human resources and their performance and in particular annual leave management;
  • Ensure all Wind Farm generation statistics under his charge are compiled and delivered timely and accurately to Unit Leader Renewable Generation;
  • Ensure continued amicable relationship and manage contracts with stakeholders/landowners;
  • Preparation of yearly budgets and maintenance plans for Wind Farm assets and activities;
  • Ensure continual improvement in the Wind Farm operational and maintenance activities for increased productivity, increased efficiency and a high standard of Asset Management;
  • Supervise the inspection and testing of completed work to ensure compliance with specifications and safety standards;
  • Monitor the competence of the team, recommending development and provide/supervise the provision of on-the-job training of employees;
  • Assist in the recruitment of operation & maintenance personnel for the department and contribute to on-the- job training including other appropriate training in liaison with the Training department;
  • Report any change in power station system elements or plant and co-ordinate for drawing amendments;
  • Monitor and appraise performance of members against the Key Performance targets and provide counselling with the view to improve on areas of employee’s weaknesses;
  • Ensure that O&M team are trained & certified with required O&M knowledge and skills;
  • Ensure proper management of Tools and Test Equipment used by Team;
  • Overseeing of vehicle management and upkeep;
  • Responsible for general maintenance and upkeep of Wind Farm;
  • Manage the legal requirements for the wind farm;
  • Assist with compiling business strategies relating to wind farms;
  • Carry out any other work as required by the Manager Generation Renewable and be on standby duties after normal working hours;
  • Display EFL values and standards at all times.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Renewable Engineering from a recognized Tertiary Institution;
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in power generation;
  • Experience and certification of wind turbine specialized operation & maintenance skills would be an advantage;
  • Computer literate and have some related qualification or experience with Project Management;
  • Must have a valid Group 2 driving license.
