The position will be based at the Energy Fiji Limited’s Kinoya Depot and will report to the Manager Distribution Central via Designated Section Heads
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out First Aid and Pole top rescue when needed;
- Take out Permit To Work on high voltage equipment, and ensure all completed PTW forms are returned to the National Control Centre promptly;
- Carry out switching on Low and High Voltage equipment;
- Carry out Construction, commissioning and maintenance work on the distribution network including transformers, switchgear, Kiosk, padmount and underground substations, pillar boxes, underground link boxes, towers, poles, conductors, crossarms, switches, earthwire, dampers, stays, etc., to EFL standards (Standard Overhead Design & Construction Manual, etc.);
- Carry out Manual Pole erection;
- Install underground earthing to required standards;
- Operate chainsaws, brush cutters, pruners, jackhammers, cement-cutters, rammers, electric drills, and other equipment;
- Identify material needed for jobs, and obtain the same via Stock Requisition or external purchase;
- Install Aerial Bundled Conductors;
- Cut and clear vegetation in the vicinity of the power lines;
- Supervise contractors.
- Carry out Standby Duties as and when required;
- Drive EFL vehicles as and when required;
- Ensure that all work is carried out as per instructions and ensure feedback is provided to the designated supervisor;
- Conduct daily meeting with team to discuss daily work program;
- Conduct daily meeting and address Safety issues, and maintain documented records of the same;
- Maintain Health & Safety legislative requirements of both EFL and the Government;
- Conduct Job Safety Assessment (JSA) before all jobs with the team, and ensure hazards are identified and mitigated, and the controls are communicated to the team;
- Report all accidents and incidents promptly to the designated supervisor and Health & Safety Officer, or Fleet Officer;
- Ensure all workers work in a safe manner, and to report any breach of safety procedures;
- Report any defects on the EFL Power Systems Network to the designated supervisor and accordingly submit hazard Reports;
- Ensure team morale is maintained at a high level;
- Provide guidance to team members to improve productivity and safety;
- Issue verbal warnings to Team members who are unproductive and report formally to HR via designated supervisor and Manager;
- Ensure all verbal, written and electronic communication is passed on to all Team members;
- Ensure that all issues raised by the team are addressed promptly;
- Responsible for managing of personnel, test equipment, working tools, safety equipment and fleet in the Team;
- Ensure that appropriate tools and equipment is available with the team on job sites as and where required;
- Ensure vehicle mileage book is filled correct and submitted to the designated supervisor on a daily basis;
- Justify to the designated supervisor the need to carry out task work where appropriate;
- Promote safety by assisting in compiling and maintaining work procedures;
- Thorough knowledge of Safe Working Procedures and EFL Safety Manual is essential;
- Ensuring safety of members of the team and public at the jobsites;
- Ensure that contact with customers and public is conducted in a Customer Focused manner;
- Perform other work-related duties consistent with the professional responsibilities assigned to the position.
Key Requirements
- The candidate must have a Line Mechanic Certificate or Electric Power Lineman Certificate with at least three-years post qualification experience as a Line Mechanic or Power Lineman;
- Must have Category A and C Authorization;
- A valid Wireman’s license is mandatory;
- A valid full Group 6 driving license (not provisional) is mandatory.
