The position will be based at the Energy Fiji Limited’s Kinoya Depot, Suva and will report to the Construction Coordinator (Central).
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out First Aid and Pole top rescue when needed;
- Take out Permit to Work on high voltage equipment, and ensure all completed PTW forms are returned to the National Control Centre promptly;
- Carry out switching on Low and High Voltage equipment;
- Carry out trenching, cabling and backfilling work;
- Carry out jointing and termination works on LV, HV and pilot cables;
- Carry out Construction, commissioning and maintenance work on the distribution network including transformers, switchgear, Kiosk, padmount and underground substations, pillar boxes, underground link boxes, towers, poles, conductors, crossarms, switches, earthwire, dampers, stays, etc, to EFL standards (Standard Overhead Design & Construction Manual, etc);
- Terminate and connect cables to overhead lines;
- Provide supervision and guidance to Cable jointers and Trainee Cable jointers;
- Assist Linemen in the installation of poles, cross arms, and other line hardware;
- Install underground earthling to required standards;
- Install pillar box and terminate cables;
- Install HV and LV switchgear and transformer inside kiosk substations, install and terminate cables;
- Install pad mount substations and terminate cables and Install and maintain underground link boxes;
- Replace oil and fuses inside HV switchgear;
- Carry out maintenance work at Kiosk, pad mount and underground substations;
- Cut and clear vegetation in the vicinity of power lines;
- Operate chainsaws, brush cutters, pruners, jackhammer, cement-cutter, rammer, electric drills, and other manual equipment;
- Install fibre-optic cables and Aerial Bundled Conductors;
- Drive EFL vehicles and Operate Crane truck, Tip-truck and Elevated Platform Vehicle (Cherry picker) when required;
- Assist supervisor in the preparation and compilation of Monthly and other reports as required;
- Conduct daily meeting with team to discuss daily work program;
- Conduct daily meeting and address Safety issues, and maintain documented records of the same;
- Maintain Health & Safety legislative requirements of both EFL and the Government;
- Conduct Job Safety Assessment (JSA) before all jobs with the team, and ensure hazards are identified and mitigated, and the controls are communicated to the team;
- Ensure all workers work in a safe manner, and to report any breach of safety procedures;
- Report any defects on the EFL Power Systems Network to the designated supervisor and accordingly submit hazard Reports;
- Ensure team morale is maintained at a high level;
- Provide guidance to team members to improve productivity and safety;
- Issue verbal warnings to Team members who are unproductive and report formally to HR via designated supervisor and Manager;
- Ensure all verbal, written and electronic communication is passed on to all Team members;
- Ensure that all issues raised by the team are addressed promptly;
- Responsible for managing of personnel, test equipment, working tools, safety equipment and fleet in the Team;
- Ensure that appropriate tools and equipment is available with the team on jobsites as and where required;
- Ensure vehicle mileage book is filled correct and submitted to the designated supervisor on a daily basis;
- Justify to the designated supervisor the need to carry out task work where appropriate;
- Report all accidents and incidents promptly to the designated supervisor and Health & Safety Officer, or Fleet Officer;
- Ensuring safety of members of the team and public at the jobsites;
- Ensure that contact with customers and public is conducted in a Customer Focused manner;
- Maintain Health & Safety legislative requirements of both EFL and Government. Promote safety by assisting in the compilation of Safe Work Procedures, and carry out work in compliance with the Safe Work Procedures;
- Perform other work-related duties consistent with the responsibilities assigned to the position.
Key Requirements:
- A Cable Jointer Certificate with three years post certification experience in the installation, termination and jointing of power cables;
- Authorized in Category A and C of High Voltage switching;
- A valid full Group six (6) Driving License (not provisional) is mandatory.
