VAC 127/24 - TRAINEE CABLE JOINTER - 3 POSITIONS (CENTRAL)

The positions will be based at the Energy Fiji Limited’s Kinoya Depot, Suva and will report to the Construction Coordinator Central.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out First Aid and Pole top rescue when needed;
  • Take part in Permit To Work (PTW) on high voltage equipment, and ensure all completed PTW forms are returned to the National Control Centre promptly;
  • Carry out switching on Low and High Voltage equipment under supervision;
  • Carry out trenching, cabling and backfilling work;
  • Carry out jointing and termination works on LV, HV and pilot cables;
  • Terminate and connect cables to overhead lines;
  • Provide assistance to Cable jointers and Trainee Cable jointers;
  • Assist Linemen/ Line Mechanic in the installation of poles, crossarms, and other line hardware;
  • Install underground earthing to required standards;
  • Install pillar box and terminate cables;
  • Install HV and LV switchgear and transformer inside kiosk substations, install and terminate cables;
  • Install padmount substations and terminate cables;
  • Replace oil and fuses inside HV switchgear;
  • Install and maintain underground link boxes;
  • Carry out maintenance work at Kiosk, padmount and underground substations;
  • Cut and clear vegetation in the vicinity of powerlines;
  • Operate chainsaws, brushcutters, pruners, jackhammer, cement-cutter, rammer, electric drills, and other manual equipment;
  • Install fibre-optic cables;
  • Install Aerial Bundled Conductors;
  • Drive EFL vehicles when required;
  • Assist supervisor in the preparation and compilation of Monthly and other Reports as required;
  • Report all accidents and incidents promptly to the designated supervisor and Health & Safety Officer, or Fleet Officer;
  • Maintain Health & Safety legislative requirements of both EFL and Government. Promote safety by assisting in the compilation of Safe Work Procedures, and carry out work in compliance with the Safe Work Procedures;
  • Perform other work-related duties consistent with the responsibilities assigned to the position.

Key Requirements:

  • A Certificate IV/Trade Certificate in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution;
  • A valid Wireman’s license is mandatory
  • A valid Group 2 driver’s license will be an added advantage;
