Load Shedding Program for Western Division - Monday 30th December 2019

30 December 2019

Energy Fiji Limited wishes to advise our valued customers in the Western Division that due to a fault on the 132,000 Volts transmission line between the Nadarivatu Power Station to the Vuda Zone Substation, we will not be able to supply electricity to all of our customers in the Western Division until the fault has been located and repaired.

The existing capacity at our Thermal Power Stations in the West (Vuda, Rakiraki, Nadi, and Sigatoka) is not sufficient to meet 100% of the demand in the Western Division.

The fault occurred on Friday 27th December, 2019 during Tropical Cyclone Sarai. Since then Energy Fiji Limited has been making efforts to carry out an inspection of the faulted line, however, our efforts have been hampered by weather on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th December, 2019 as the advice we received from our helicopter pilot was that the weather between Nadarivatu and Vuda was not safe to fly through. An attempt was made on Sunday 29th December, 2019 to carry out the helicopter patrol, however the inspection team had to abort the patrol due to poor visibility (due to low cloud cover and persistent rains) and high winds which made the helicopter patrol extremely dangerous. A further attempt will be made tomorrow morning, Monday 30th December, 2019 to carry out the helicopter patrol along the faulted line. Notwithstanding the helicopter patrol our teams and contractors are carrying out the inspection of the line on foot in the areas which can be accessed safely.

Once the fault has been repaired, work will be carried out to repair the fault, after which the subject line will be energized so as to be able to transport hydro-power from the Nadarivatu and Monasavu Hydro Power Stations to the Western Division. Until such time that the subject line has been re-energized power will be switched off to the customers in the Western Division from Monday 30th December, 2019 as follows: (Please click the link below for the PDF Load Shedding Program)
