TEAM LEADER THERMAL (WESTERN)

The position will be based at the EFL’s New Vuda Power Station and will report to the Unit Leader Thermal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and control a Team assigned with daily works plan for operation, repair and maintenance of EFL Thermal power station and surrounds;
  • Accountable for the Operations and Maintenance expenditure for the stations within approved budgetary limits including overtime, hiring of additional labour, etc;
  • Ensure prudent inventory management and control of adequate genset and machines spares;
  • Accountable for the administration of the Teams human resources and their performance and in particular annual leave management;
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting for power stations, including all EFL Thermal generation statistics, to Manager Thermal Generation;
  • Ensure continued amicable relationship and manage contracts with stakeholders/landowners;
  • Ensure security of thermal power station materials and equipment;
  • Assist in the preparation of yearly budgets and maintenance plans for all thermal generation assets and activities;
  • Ensure continual improvement in Thermal operational activities for increased productivity, efficiency and a high standard of assets management;
  • Supervise the inspection and testing of completed work to ensure compliance with specifications and safety standards;
  • Supervise the inspection, regulation and functioning of installed plants and equipment employed at the power station;
  • Monitor the competence of the team, recommending development plans as well as providing on-the-job training of employees;
  • Assist in the recruitment of technical personnel for the department and contribute to on-the- job training including other appropriate training in liaison with the Training department;
  • Report any change in power station system elements or plants and co-ordinate for drawing amendments. Ensure updated records are kept;
  • Monitor and appraise performance of team members against the Key Performance targets and provide counselling with the view to improve on areas of employees’ weakness;
  • Ensure sufficient consumables and engine spares are available for the efficient daily operation and maintenance of the stations;
  • Ensure that Operation & Maintenance (O&M) team are trained & certified with required knowledge and skills;
  • Overseeing of vehicle management and upkeep and ensure proper fuel management system implemented and followed;
  • Ensure proper management of Tools and Test Equipment used by Team;
  • Responsible for general maintenance and upkeep of Power Station and depots;
  • Responsible for general supervision and administration of personnel at power station level;
  • Ensure Safety Procedures and Practices (OH&S Act) are maintained and compiled with and the EFL Safety, Health and Environment Policy is implemented;
  • Carry out any other work as required by the Unit Leader and be on standby duties after normal working hours.

Key Requirements

  • The candidate should have a Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognized Tertiary Institute;
  • A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in power generation, three (3) years of which as Technical Officer or been an outstanding performer as a Power Station Technician;
  • Computer literate and have some related qualification or experience with Project Management;
  • A valid Group two (not provisional) driver’s license is mandatory.
