TECHNICAL ASSISTANT - GIS (CENTRAL)

The position will be based at the EFL’s Head Office (Suva) and will report to the Team Leader GIS.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with Draught persons and GIS Coordinator to produce generation, transmission and distribution network extension construction drawings according to EFL’s design and drawings standards;
  • Assist in preparation with conceptual design drawing for various design/ construction projects and major projects;
  • Produce electrical schematic drawings for zone substations and power stations from designs submitted by Electrical Engineers, in line with internationally approved and adopted drawings standards;
  • Update distribution network and transmission network single line diagrams for commissioning of new plant or decommissioning of existing plant in accordance with request from various operational and project stakeholders;
  • Produce charts and graphs using CAD Software for technical reporting by various stakeholders;
  • Produce drawings for preparation and/or updating of EFL’s various Design and Construction manuals and standards, including Overhead Line Design and Construction Manual and Underground Cable Network Design and Construction Manual;
  • Regularly update EFL GIS drawings server and database for recording and registering of new and/or updated EFL’s drawings;
  • Receipt, screen and review new drawings submitted by external stakeholders afar accuracy and compliance to EFL’s drawings standards;
  • Issue new drawing numbers and update Drawings Database and sever, according to the EFL’s Drawings Numbering System;
  • Assist with GIS Data Capture activity for EFL’s assets, including new overhead lines, underground cable networks and power plant, by travelling to field and capturing asset GPS location data using handheld GPS Data Capture equipment and updating the same on GIS Data server;
  • Provide timely Customer Service to various stakeholders (internal and external) by availing EFL asset GIS Data and drawings for various project work and grid extension projects;
  • Ensure at all times that Health & Safety considerations in all facets of activities are of top priority;
  • Provide support in basic office administration, including providing input for regular reporting, updating of GIS Equipment Register and general upkeep of office equipment;
  • Carry out other duties delegated by the GIS Coordinator or Unit Leader.

Key Requirements:

  • The candidate should have a Diploma in Electrical or Civil Engineering from a recognized tertiary institution;
  • At least three (3) experience in similar role in an Electrical Utility or Consultancy;
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of AutoCAD Software and sound computer skills is a must;
  • Working knowledge of GIS equipment and GIS Software is highly desirable;
  • A valid Group two (not provisional) driver’s license is mandatory.
