TRAINEE SYSTEM CONTROLLER (WESTERN)

The position will be based at the EFL’s National Control Centre in Vuda, Lautoka and will report to the Team Leader System Control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in controlling the loading of generating sets over which he has direct control in order to ensure efficient operation of the units;
  • Issue instructions to station operators by telephone or radio telephone for the production of energy and subsequent distribution to lines on basis of load, equipment availability, and inter-connections with other power stations within grid;
  • Assist system controllers in Redistribution load, direct switching and make other arrangements to maintain service in emergency situations;
  • Notify proper authorities of conditions needing their attention;
  • Keep and maintain records of normal and emergency operations performed during a period of duty;
  • Plot daily load curve, identify maximum demand of individual feeders and calculate total frequency;
  • Apply knowledge of technical theory and practice to recognize and solve problems arising in the course of his duties;
  • Issue and cancel permits to work to personnel under supervision;
  • Assist in preparing and supervise planned outages and must be prepared to do shift work;
  • Ensure that system and plant changes are recorded and preliminary drawing/amendments produced and forwarded to the drawing office;
  • Coordinate with other work units in the Authority for the successful completion of work;
  • Prepare and submit regular, operational, fault, commissioning and special reports as and when required;
  • Attend to EFL consumer queries and notify appropriate department for action;
  • Ensure all safety procedures are observed and adhered to according to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Authority’s safety ruled and procedures;
  • Perform other work-related duties consistent with responsibilities assigned to the position;
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by Team Leader Operations Planning.

Key Requirements:

  • The candidate should have a Diploma in Electrical Engineering with three years of relevant experience;
  • Must be Computer literate and be proficient in English and able to prepare technical reports and should be prepared to undertake other studies in order to maintain knowledge of current practices in Power System;
  • A valid Group 2 driving license will be an added advantage.
