The Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) wishes to advise its valued customers that major maintenance works will be carried out at its Wailoa Power Station over this Easter long weekend from 9:30pm on Thursday, the 24^th of March 2016 to Monday, the 28^th of March 2016. EFL will be replacing a main inlet valve at its Wailoa Power Station. This critical work needs to be carried out over this long weekend as this exercise is time consuming and the electricity demand will be lower than on a normal working day.

As a result, the Monasavu Hydroelectric Scheme and the Wailoa Power Station will not be operational and the electricity demand of our Viti Levu customers will be supplied through the Wainikasou and Nadarivatu Hydro Power Stations and diesel generators around Viti Levu. At this stage, we do not anticipate any planned power outages or any load shedding over the weekend as the available gensets will be able to cater for the electricity demand in Viti Levu during the Easter break. However, should one of our operating gensets break-down for some reason, then an unplanned power outage could be expected in some areas. The EFL will endeavour its best to keep such unplanned outages to a minimum.

Finally, the EFL wishes to allay all fears that are brewing amongst the community at large that EFL will be opening its Monasavu Lake to flood the Wailoa River during the Easter weekend. This is NOT SO. In fact, the Monasavu Hydro Dam will be shut down and no water will be discharged into the Wailoa River from Friday morning. For the information of our valued customers and the public at large, the Wailoa Power Station discharges water into the Wailoa River daily when it operates and this does not result in any sort of flooding anywhere.
