VAC 19/26 – ENVIRONMENT OFFICER (CENTRAL)
The position will be based at the Energy Fiji Limited’s Head Office and will report to the Environmental Manager.
Key Objective:
The incumbent is responsible for providing contract and project administration support, support and expertise in accordance with all relevant procurement procedures, guidelines and work instructions. Success in this role is characterized by impactful and influential contribution, an ability to build relationships across broad stakeholder groups, and contract management excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement an Environmental Management System (EMS) aligned to ISO14001;
- Coordinate with Department of Environment and Authorized Environment Consultants with EIA process;
- Develop the Tender Specification for EIA studies for various EFL projects and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on fulfilling EIA study and requirements as per Department of Environment Laws and Regulations;
- Monitor the media reports, social media for comments and feedback related to EFL (or pertain) Environmental matters and report to Management;
- Inspect EFL industrial facilities and programs to ensure compliance with Fiji Environmental Management Act.2005, Fiji law, Regulation 2007 and WDM laws;
- Update Stakeholders about any non-compliance identified by Operations team and Environmental officer;
- Update Internal Stakeholders about deviations in monitoring plan and corrective actions required during monthly data review;
- Maintain calibration records and alert Management about any upcoming calibration requirements at EFL facilities;
- Coordinate with third party entities to ensure successful implementation of monitoring plan, verification, audits and smooth issuance of Certified Emission Reduction (CER) Data;
- Initiate annual internal audit process in accordance with monitoring manual;
- Coordinate with EIA Consultant to update monitoring manual as per latest guidelines;
- Develop and obtain EFL management support for an environmental policy for EFL;
- Identify, investigate, monitor and report on International Benchmarks for environmental performance for electricity utilities: Generation, Plants, Sub-Station etc;
- Provide support for EFL’s involvement regarding energy efficiency and demand side management projects or program;
- Provide promotional, educational and advocacy assistance in the development of EFL projects and strategic objectives;
- Carry out any other duties assigned by the Manager or the General Manager.
Key Competency Requirements:
- Degree in Environmental Science or Environment Engineering from a recognized tertiary institution;
- At least two (2) to three (3) years of experience as an Environment officer, Experience in Energy industry as an Environmental officer would be added advantage;
- Aware of CDM, LED’s, GGF etc would be advantage;
- Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) knowledge is essential;
- Certification of ISO 14000 practice would be an added advantage;
- A valid full Group 2 driver’s license (not provisional) is mandatory.
