VAC 165/22 - ASSISTANT POWER STATION OPERATOR - 2 POSITIONS (CAWAIRA)

The position will be based at the Energy Fiji Limited’s Cawaira Power Station and will report to the Team Leader Thermal North. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Power Station Operator for the daily monitoring & operation of diesel generating plant and its associated equipment;
  • Keeps engines and surroundings in clean conditions, including mopping floors;
  • Checks that lubricating agent, fuel and cooling water tanks are at prescribed levels, both when entering on and when leaving shift; makes necessary adjustments. Filing Bunker fuel tanks during delivery of fuel, by closing and opening valves, taking Dip-stick readings prior and after delivery, and confirming amount delivered; transport lubricating agent drums to pumps and fills tanks either by motor-driven pump or by operating hand lever;
  • Checks that compressed air bottles are filled at prescribed pressure and make adjustment by operating air compressor;
  • Assists and may perform starting of engines by starting oil pump, water pump, and by adjusting air-pressure valves and increasing speeds to facilitate engine synchronization undertaken by supervisor on switchboard;
  • Immediately after, stopping an engine, prepares for re-starting by turning crankshaft (with bar) into prescribed position. If the engine is not in use, assist to ensure that it is covered as required which will involve operating of cranes;
  • Assist Power Station Operator in reading electricity generation and load dispatching dials and meters;
  • Assist in ensuring that power station is well secured to protect engines from natural hazards or fire;
  • Maintain Occupational Health and Safety requirements of both EFL and Fiji legislation;
  • Carry out any other work as assigned by Team Leader Thermal.

Key Requirements

  • The Candidate must have a Certificate IV / Trade Certificate in Mechanical/ Plant or Electrical Engineering from a recognized tertiary institute;
  • At least one year of relevant experience;
